Hi chickies! I know we still have a little over a month to go before we actually hit winter season, but all this rain and 40 degree weather has me feeling like winter has already begun.. If you know me, you know I absolutely love winter. However I don’t like the sickness and depression that come along with it. So today I want to give you my top five tips to stay well this winter! 1. Good nights sleep. Our bodies naturally need more sleep in the colder, shorter days and longer nights. Try going to sleep about thirty minutes earlier in the winter season. A sleep deprived body allows for more illness to sneak into our systems. Not only does not getting enough sleep negatively affect your health but also your skin. It does so by losing the moisture levels in your skin and decreasing the complexions pH levels. This can cause our skin to look less youthful and less glowy. •Difusing lavender essiential oil in my bedroom helps make sure I get a goods night sleep. You can also put a few drops on your pillow. 2. Get outside and move. Movement and exercise naturally builds a healthy and happy mood along with energy levels. So bundle up and take a walk - just a fifteen minute walk will do! This also helps decrease stress levels - your skin will love this as well, because decreasing stress levels will help your skin to age less. •I love to get my favorite boots and cozy jacket on, to go for a walk, with my pup and hubby! 3. Increase protein intake. It is highly important to eat protein at each meal in the winter season. Although it’s very easy to increase carbohydrates and sugar during this season, they can weaken our immune system. Protein will keep our blood sugar levels stable and reduce our cravings for those carbohydrates and sugary foods. •my favorite protein rich meal during the winter season is: cook meat with olive oil and seasonings in a pan on medium heat. add in mushrooms, green pepper and green beans. cover for approximately 5 minutes. serve and enjoy! This is one of my favs because it’s warm, flavorful and packed with protein and nutrients! 4. Stay social. The cooler weather always makes me want to stay in with my hot tea and a Christmas movie, but this isolated me from everyone and everything. Even though this sounds cozy, it can cause depression. So try to make a date with a friend or family member once a week! •have a girls night out shopping or have a coffee/tea date with your mom. 5. Focus on fruits and veggies. In the winter season it is actually the most important time to get all the fruits and veggies into our systems each day. Why? Because they have many vitamins and antioxidants that will help fight off toxins and sickness. •apples are one of my favs during the winter season. I like to slice them up and bake them in the oven and even drizzle a little dark chocolate and flaked sea salt. Yum!! stay well this season! chat with ya soon, Brianna Moorer, HC
